Emails released by the US Justice Department show that notorious Mossad asset Jeffrey Epstein advised a Qatari businessman that Doha needed to “sing and dance” for Israel to win favour with then-President Donald Trump during the 2017 blockade of Qatar.
The messages reveal Epstein inserting himself into the Gulf crisis between Qatar and a bloc led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which cut ties and imposed a land, air, and sea blockade backed by Trump, according to the Middle East Eye news service.
Writing on 9 July 2017 to a man identified as Jabor Y, later appearing as Jabor Yousef Jassim Al Thani, Epstein suggested Qatar could escape isolation by normalising relations with Israel.
He also proposed that, if recognition was not possible, Qatar could contribute $1 billion to a fund for victims of terrorism and encourage other GCC states to match it. Epstein argued that Qatar should stop “kicking and arguing” and follow India’s example, claiming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outreach to Israel had impressed the US president.
The correspondence underscores Epstein’s attempts to wield influence and work for Israel’s interests, alongside his long-standing connections to intelligence networks and former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, a frequent guest at Epstein’s lavish home in New York.
