Trump has revealed the members of his Gaza Peace Council, which is supposed to oversee the implementation of the second phase of his plan to end the war in Gaza. Three out of the seven are Jewish real estate developers, which critics of US policy say does not augur well for the future of native Gazans, most of whom have lost their homes to Israeli bombs and artillery fire over the last two years.
Former UK prime minister Tony Blair has made it onto the seven-member board, despite many Arab nations opposing his nomination. The disarmament of Hamas and reconstruction are supposed to be the board’s remit in the second phase.
Members of the Peace Council: Secretary of State Marco Rubio; envoy and real estate mogul Steve Witkoff; the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner; former British Prime Minister Tony Blair; Jewish-American billionaire Mark Rowan; World Bank President Ajay Banga; and Robert Gabriel, U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor.
In 2024, Kushner infamously said that Gaza has “very valuable” waterfront property, saying that Israel should “move the people out and then clean it up”.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and an elderly woman were killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza on Friday.
