Donald Trump has called on Iranians to continue protesting, saying that “help is on its way,” as a US-based human rights group reported that more than 2,000 people have been killed in nationwide anti-government demonstrations.

Trump did not explain what form the promised assistance would take, but his remarks followed recent comments suggesting Tehran was seeking talks with Washington. His latest social media post marked a sharp change in tone, urging protesters to seize institutions, document abuses, and warning that Iranian officials would face consequences.

The US president has repeatedly said military action remains an option if Iran continues using lethal force against demonstrators, with White House officials weighing responses ranging from diplomacy to strikes.

Trump has also threatened economic measures, including immediate 25% tariffs on countries doing business with Iran, though details remain unclear. Human Rights Activists News Agency reported that most of the 2,003 deaths were protesters, making the unrest the deadliest in Iran in decades and drawing comparisons to the turmoil of the 1979 revolution.
