President Donald Trump confirmed earlier this week that the US had struck a docking facility in Venezuela, marking the first attack on Venezuelan territory since Washington began targeting vessels it claims are involved in drug trafficking in September 2025.

Speaking alongside war crimes suspect Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida, Trump said the strike caused an explosion at a site where boats allegedly used to transport drugs are loaded, though he provided no further details. The strike came despite Trump’s repeated portrayal of himself as a “president of peace” who claims to have ended multiple wars this year.

According to the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data project, the US has carried out or participated in 622 overseas bombings since Trump took office in January 2025. The Venezuela attack is part of a broader escalation that includes strikes on small boats in the Caribbean, seizures of oil tankers, and a significant buildup of US military forces in the region. Human rights groups and lawmakers have raised serious concerns about civilian deaths, lack of evidence, and the Pentagon’s refusal to release footage from controversial strikes.
