Ukrainian intelligence reported that two Russian soldiers killed seven Ukrainian civilians in Pokrovsk, eastern Ukraine, during the night of Dec. 20–21. According to the initiative I Want to Live, the soldiers broke into a basement where civilians were hiding, demanded alcohol, shot a father and son when none was provided, and then killed a family of four and another man inside the shelter, setting the building on fire.

One witness survived by pretending to be dead, while the soldiers later falsely claimed to a Russian commander that they had eliminated a Ukrainian military reconnaissance group. The two soldiers were detained on December 23 by Ukraine’s 159th Military Commandant’s Office.
