Poland’s long-anticipated mega-airport, now renamed Port Polska, is planned to open in 2032 as a major gateway linking the country to Europe and beyond.
Situated between Warsaw and Łódź, the hub aims to handle around 40 million passengers each year, placing it alongside Europe’s busiest airports such as Heathrow and Istanbul. Although the project was approved in 2017, its development was slowed by corruption allegations tied to the former government.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk, elected in 2023, has pledged to relaunch the scheme with what he calls a clean start, saying it will transform travel across Poland and the wider region. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 on a 2,585-hectare site, supported by an investment of 131 billion złoty, or about €30 billion.
The airport will combine air travel with high-speed rail and road links, allowing passengers to reach cities such as Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław quickly, with Warsaw just 20 minutes away by train. Initial plans include two 4,000-metre parallel runways, with additional runways added later, alongside a passenger terminal integrated with a railway station.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the complex will feature a light-filled interchange plaza with greenery, bringing air, rail and road transport together in a single shared space.
