Ukraine gives as good as it gets with strategic strikes

Russia continued its campaign against Ukraine overnight from Sunday to Monday, launching dozens of drones at energy infrastructure and striking targets in the Donbas.

Ukraine, meanwhile, carried out coordinated attacks on Russian military and energy assets, damaging an oil terminal, pipeline, ammunition depots, a drone launch site, two vessels and two fighter jets, according to Ukrainian officials.

Strikes hit the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal, facilities in Russia’s Krasnodar region, occupied Crimea and Russian-held areas of Donetsk, though Kyiv did not disclose the weapons used.

Ukrainian intelligence also reported that partisans set fire to two Russian fighter jets at an airfield near Lipetsk, while Russia claimed it intercepted several Ukrainian drones.

Kyiv says the operations are aimed at degrading Russian military capabilities and undermining Moscow’s claims of battlefield strength during stalled peace talks.

On the front lines, Russia has intensified its war of attrition in the Donbas, launching dozens of attacks near Kostyantynivka, where the population has fallen from 67,000 to about 4,300 amid heavy bombardment. Despite widespread destruction and constant drone surveillance, Ukrainian forces have so far prevented deeper Russian advances into the city.

Russia has also sustained its assault on Ukraine’s energy grid, launching 86 drones overnight—58 of which were shot down—as part of what Kyiv calls the continued “weaponisation of winter.”
