Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Thani said at the Doha Forum that Qatar will continue supporting Palestinians but will not fund the reconstruction of Gaza, insisting it will not rebuild what Israel destroyed.
He argued that Israel, like Russia in Ukraine, should be responsible for repairing the damage it caused, rejecting claims that the region should share the financial burden while warning that misinformation aims to harm Doha–Washington relations.
Al-Thani stressed that Qatar will not abandon Palestinians yet will not write checks for destruction caused by others, and warned that without a political solution and amid ongoing Israeli presence and violations, the conflict could reignite. He also condemned Israel’s extreme right, denied that Qatar currently funds Hamas, and said Qatar’s past ties to the group began years ago at U.S. request, making Israeli criticism morally unacceptable given Qatar’s mediation role.
Qatar, he said, will not send reconstruction funds, equipment, or materials until the second phase of the ceasefire begins, even as President Donald Trump claims the ceasefire is holding and Phase Two will start soon. Meanwhile. U.S. efforts to form an international stabilisation force face resistance as few countries will deploy troops to Gaza under Israeli oversight, especially after Hamas vowed noncooperation.
