Israel is expected to reopen the Allenby crossing, the sole transit point between the West Bank and Jordan, on Wednesday under U.S. pressure, according to Haaretz, Israel’s left-leaning daily.

The crossing was closed in September after a Jordanian truck driver delivering aid to Gaza shot and killed two Israeli soldiers. An Israeli defence official told Haaretz that the crossing will be opened under orders from the political leadership and will allow the transit of goods and aid between Jordan, the West Bank and Gaza.

According to the unidentified official, in recent weeks, both Israeli and Jordanian officials have made changes to the procedures on both sides of the crossing, including tightening the security and screening procedures for Jordanian drivers and their cargo and reinforcing security personnel.
