Israeli prime minister and alleged war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday to discuss recent indirect talks between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme, according to Netanyahu’s office.

The Israeli leader argues that any negotiations must also address limits on Iran’s ballistic missile programme and end its support for allied militant groups across the region.

The talks, held in Oman on Friday, appeared to make little progress, though Trump described them as “very good” and said further discussions would take place soon, with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner representing Washington.

Trump has continued to warn of possible military action to force a nuclear deal, reinforcing the message by deploying major US naval assets to the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded by saying US military pressure does not intimidate Iran, insisting that the country’s real strength lies in its ability to resist foreign pressure while maintaining its right to enrich uranium and refusing to negotiate its missile programme.

While Araghchi called the talks a positive starting point, he stressed that deep mistrust remains after past US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and warned that Iran would retaliate against US bases if attacked, even as he said negotiations would resume soon.
