Vladimir Putin has been invited to join former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “board of peace,” which aims to address global conflicts and oversee governance and reconstruction in Gaza.
The invitation comes amid Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, where a peace settlement has yet to be reached despite continued negotiations. The White House has reportedly contacted leaders worldwide for the board, with Trump planning to chair the group personally, and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has also been invited.
Moscow is reviewing the offer, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noting that Russia seeks to clarify its details before deciding on participation. Putin has praised Trump’s previous conflict-resolution efforts and highlighted Russia’s humanitarian assistance to Palestinians during the Gaza crisis, as ties with Israel have cooled.
Critics of the board argue that its make-up prioritises Trump and pro-Israel officials while severely limiting Palestinian influence, raising concerns over a potentially commercialised or “neocolonial” approach to governance.
