On Tuesday Donald Trump warned that a “day of reckoning and retribution” was coming to Minnesota as protests continued following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis.
The remark, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account without further explanation, followed his administration’s pledge to intensify immigration enforcement in the state. Federal officials announced plans to deploy hundreds more ICE agents to Minneapolis, a move city and state leaders described as a dangerous escalation that overwhelms local law enforcement.
Minnesota’s attorney general, along with the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, filed a lawsuit alleging the surge violates free speech rights and infringes on state authority.
Authorities say the increased presence has led to racial profiling, fear, school lockdowns, and business closures, prompting claims that federal actions are causing widespread disruption.
Public anger has persisted amid disputed accounts of the shooting, video evidence contradicting official statements, and concerns over the integrity of the federal investigation.
