Cancer-related deaths in Gaza have tripled since Israel’s onslaught began, as patients are prevented from leaving and vital chemotherapy and radiotherapy supplies are blocked.
Hani Naim, a cancer patient approved for treatment abroad, remains trapped in Gaza, unable to access care that once existed in the West Bank and Jerusalem. He is one of about 11,000 cancer patients stranded in the enclave where the healthcare system has collapsed and cancer treatment is virtually nonexistent, Al Jazeera reports.
The destruction of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, Gaza’s only specialised oncology centre, has left doctors working in makeshift clinics without equipment or medicine. Medical officials say most cancer treatment protocols are unavailable, pain relief is rationed, and patients are dying daily as the disease spreads unchecked.
With border crossings closed and evacuations blocked, a cancer diagnosis in Gaza has become, for many, a near-certain death sentence.
