Ukraine’s army commander, General Oleksandr Syrsky, said that in December Ukraine’s drone forces for the first time killed or seriously wounded as many Russian soldiers as Russia was able to recruit in a single month.
He said that more than 33,000 Russian personnel were neutralised by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, a figure based only on confirmed video evidence, with actual losses likely higher. Independent researchers and open-source analysts released estimates that broadly aligned with these claims, while noting a sharp year-on-year increase in confirmed Russian deaths.
Ukrainian drone force commander Major Robert Brovdi reported that December saw record drone activity and a significant rise in successful strikes compared with November. He argued that Ukraine could prevail if drone operations continue to inflict losses faster than Russia can replace its troops. Russian officials have disputed casualty estimates but have given recruitment figures that roughly match the loss levels cited by Ukrainian and independent sources.
