Protests are intensifying across Iran despite a growing presence of armed security forces, as government attempts to stabilise the worsening economy falter. Videos shared online showed thousands of people demonstrating Tuesday night in Abdanan, Ilam province, with protesters far outnumbering security personnel as army helicopters hovered overhead.
In the provincial capital, Ilam, security forces raided Imam Khomeini Hospital to arrest protesters, a move Amnesty International said violates international law. The hospital had treated wounded demonstrators after security forces opened fire on crowds gathered near a military base in Malekshahi, killing several people.
State-linked media reported at least three civilian deaths and said a police officer was also killed in clashes following funeral processions.
