The US Department of Justice on Tuesday released its latest and largest batch of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, comprising more than 11,000 documents.

This release is part of an ongoing disclosure process that began on Friday under a new law requiring the department to make public all investigative records concerning the deceased financier and convicted paedophile.

Many of the newly released documents are heavily redacted, including the names of individuals the FBI appeared to identify as potential co-conspirators, prompting bipartisan criticism from lawmakers who argue the law allows redactions only to protect victims or active investigations.

President Donald Trump is referenced more frequently in this tranche than in earlier releases, largely through media reports, though one email from a federal prosecutor suggested he flew on Epstein’s private jet. The justice department cautioned that some of the files include unverified and sensational claims about Trump, and reiterated that being named in the Epstein materials does not imply wrongdoing.

Among the documents are internal FBI emails from 2019 discussing ten possible co-conspirators, six of whom had already been served subpoenas across several US states, while others, including a wealthy Ohio businessman, had not. Later emails, many of which are redacted, mention multiple names, with only Ghislaine Maxwell and Wexner left unredacted, alongside a note questioning whether Ohio authorities had contacted Wexner.

Wexner’s lawyers told the BBC that prosecutors stated he was neither a target nor a co-conspirator, emphasising that he cooperated fully with investigators and was not contacted again after providing background information on Epstein.
