More than 180 foreigners illegally entered Poland through a tunnel beneath the border with Belarus, according to the Polish Border Guard. The tunnel was dug under a dam near Narewka in the Podlasie region and measured nearly 100 metres long and about 1.5 metres high.

Its entrance was concealed in a forest on the Belarusian side about 50 metres from the border, while the exit lay roughly 10 metres inside Poland. Using integrated electronic monitoring systems, officers quickly located the migrants after they emerged from the tunnel.

More than 130 people have already been detained, and search operations for the remaining individuals are still under way. Soldiers, police officers and tracking dogs took part in the operation, leading to the rapid apprehension of most of the group.

Those detained were mainly Afghan and Pakistani nationals, with others from India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Authorities also detained two suspected smugglers—a 69-year-old Pole and a 49-year-old Lithuanian—while further investigations continue, noting this is the fourth such tunnel found this year.
