Floods have inundated a tent settlement in Deir al-Balah, affecting hundreds of displaced families, while the death toll attributed to floods in all of Gaza rose to 14.
UN data shows that on Wednesday at least 465 households, totalling 2,731 people, living in 260 tents were impacted, with aid workers reporting that the number of families losing their shelters continued to rise through the week.
Although a ceasefire was announced in October, Israeli forces have carried out sporadic strikes and maintained restrictions on aid, sharply limiting access to equipment urgently needed to protect people from floodwaters and cold.
As usual, Israel denies restricting aid, instead accusing humanitarian organisations of inefficiency in distributing supplies. As tent camps along the southern coast were washed away, thousands of Palestinians moved north to Gaza City to seek refuge in bomb-damaged buildings, where the UN said conditions were further worsened by the lack of gas, electricity, and the severe scarcity of firewood.
