Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his strong solidarity with Venezuela after the United States seized a sanctioned oil tanker near its coast.
The Kremlin said Putin conveyed this support during a call with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Thursday. According to the readout, Putin backed Maduro’s efforts to defend Venezuela’s national interests and sovereignty amid rising external pressure.
Venezuela stated that both leaders reaffirmed the strategic and expanding nature of their bilateral relationship. The government added that Putin promised continued Russian support and emphasised that communication channels between the two nations remain open. The remarks came as the U.S. increased pressure on Caracas, with officials refusing to rule out additional actions against sanctioned tankers.
