Indian Railways has expanded its capacity by adding 116 coaches to 37 premium trains to meet rising passenger demand as Indians are forced to find alternative means of transport as flight cancellations mount and the national carrier seeks to get to grips with the crisis..
These upgrades span 114 trips nationwide, strengthening accommodation options across multiple regions. Southern Railway has introduced the highest number of additional coaches among all zones. The Ministry of Railways stated that the enhancements include new Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on heavily traveled routes starting December 6, 2025.
Northern and Western Railways have also increased their coach counts to support growing travel needs. Special services such as the Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal and the New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special have been deployed to address peak-season pressure. Overall, the added capacity aims to improve connectivity across critical corridors, including Jammu and Mumbai.
