Tens of thousands of people marched in Manila demanding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s resignation over a corruption scandal involving flood-control infrastructure spending and alleged kickbacks.
The protest, organised by the People’s Movement Against Corruption (KBKK), began at Luneta National Park and continued toward the presidential palace. Demonstrators carried an effigy of Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte depicted as “corrupt-codiles,” alongside signs calling for Marcos to resign and for corrupt officials to be held accountable.
Organisers estimated the crowd at more than 20,000, reflecting mounting outrage over the “Trillion-Peso” scandal, in which politicians allegedly took massive bribes for defective or nonexistent public works. Public anger has grown after two devastating typhoons killed more than 250 people, while two cabinet ministers have already resigned and former lawmaker Zaldy Co has accused Marcos of directing questionable budget additions. Marcos has denied all allegations as protests continue to swell.
