Amnesty International says Israel is “still committing genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza despite last month’s ceasefire. The US-brokered truce between Israel and Hamas began on October 10 after two years of war.
Amnesty’s chief, Agnès Callamard, warned that the ceasefire creates a false sense of normalcy while Israel continues harmful policies. Israel has previously rejected such accusations as false and politically motivated. Amnesty argues that Israel’s severe restrictions on aid and essential services show no meaningful change in intent.
A UN commission of inquiry later concluded that genocide is occurring in Gaza, a finding Israel also denies. The international court of justice has ordered Israel to prevent incitement to genocide. According to Gaza health officials, the war has killed tens of thousands, including hundreds since the ceasefire began.
