The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is planning to set up all-woman forward posts at 10 locations along the 3,488-km India–China border.

These posts will first be established in Ladakh’s Lukung and Himachal Pradesh’s Thangi, with eight more to follow.

At the ITBP’s 64th Raising Day Parade, Director General Praveen Kumar said the force provides a safe and respectful work environment for women, who already serve alongside men at forward posts.

He noted that a forwardisation plan has expanded the number of forward posts from 180 to 215. Additionally, 41 new posts are being created to further strengthen security and coordination along the China border.

The ITBP aims to become a fully modernised force with smart border technology, sustainable infrastructure, stronger human resources, and better civil interface. Recent upgrades include improved infrastructure at forward posts and the use of logistics drones to deliver medicines and rations.
