Donald Trump departed the White House on Friday night for his first trip to Asia this term, with stops in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. The visit focuses on investment deals, peace efforts, and a potential meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to ease trade tensions…
Trump’s first stop is Kuala Lumpur, where he will attend the ASEAN summit and meet Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He’s also set to join a joint signing ceremony with the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia to solidify a ceasefire deal.
Earlier this year, Trump threatened to withhold trade deals unless the countries ended their border conflict, later praising Ibrahim for mediating peace.
After Malaysia, Trump will visit Japan to meet newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and discuss $900 billion in planned investments tied to reduced tariffs.
He will then travel to South Korea for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. There, Trump and China’s Xi are expected to hold a high-stakes meeting aimed at calming the ongoing US-China trade war.
