More than 20 nations backing Ukraine have vowed to “remove Russian oil and gas from the global market” in a coordinated effort to pressure President Vladimir Putin to end the war.
“We’re cutting off the funding for Russia’s war machine,” said UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer after hosting a London summit of the so-called “coalition of the willing.”
In recent days, the UK and US have imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, while the EU has targeted Moscow’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who attended the summit in London, reiterated that sustained “pressure” on Russia remains the only path to ending the conflict. However, no announcements were made regarding the delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine.
Zelensky has repeatedly argued that U.S.-made Tomahawk missiles and European systems would raise the costs of war for Moscow by enabling strikes on vital military targets—such as oil refineries and weapons depots—deep inside Russian territory.
During talks in Washington last week, however, U.S. President Donald Trump signalled to Zelensky that he was not prepared to approve the supply of Tomahawks.
